Dear friends and families,
We understand these are difficult times for all of us, with 24/7 news coverage about Covid-19, volatile investment markets, temporary layoffs, doors shuttered and, of course, our own personal concerns about the health and safety of family, friends and colleagues. However, we want to alert you to a critical issue facing Sharon-Hope right now.
The donation revenue the church normally receives through our weekly givings has been severely impacted by the suspension of Sunday services. Rental revenue is nil since groups cannot meet. As a result, our revenues are significantly lower than they need to be. Although the church will not be able to hold worship services until the health crisis passes, church expenses still need to be paid, including salaries, utilities, insurance, property maintenance, etc. We need donation revenues to pay these expenses and we need your help. Until we are able to return to normal worship services, we ask that you consider donating by one of these 3 options:
- By mail. Mail your weekly donations to the church OR mail a single check covering a number of weeks OR mail post-dated cheques for a number of weeks. Envelopes should be clearly marked “To be opened only by the “Envelope Treasurer” (for confidentiality). Include your name and how the donation amount should be allocated (i.e., to General, M&S, etc.).
- By PAR. If you are not already on the United Church of Canada’s Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) program and would be interested in taking this opportunity to start donating through PAR, please alert the church office of your wishes. Tom Pilkington, our Acting Envelope Treasurer, will contact you directly to answer any questions you have about this program and to get you set up. If you are already on PAR, consider increasing the amount you give through PAR, even if temporarily. Again, Tom Pilkington can assist you with this.
- Online donations. Donations can be made to Sharon-Hope through CanadaHelps by clicking this link: Sharon-Hope United Church You can donate by credit card or use PayPal.
Asking for your help right now might be asking a lot. These are uncertain times. The need for pastoral care has never been higher. Having a strong, financially viable church is very important.
We appreciate your consideration on the above matter as you are able. We wish you and your families good health.
If you, or someone you know, is in need of pastoral care or have other needs, please contact the church office.
